ability, motivation, attitude

Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.
“Lou Holtz”

The first step to success is knowing what you are good at. We are all good at something, that is a fact. It may be drawing, it may be communication, it may be building something. The next step that is so vital and often time the missing link of taking yourself to the next level is your Motivation, this is KEY! In order to be motivated, it is my belief, you must have the love for your ability, a true passion. There is nothing that should ever stop you from doing or going after what you love. Motivation comes with a commitment, you must make an effort to build up the power in your mind to be motivated. The last is having the right attitude, another key factor. You must remain positive about successes and failures that are occurring in your daily life. A person who is negative or has a bad attitude is fearful of something. Fear produces stress and anxiety. Think about what you are scared of the next time you are stressed or having anxiety. Are you scared
you won’t make the deadline set to turn in your project, are you scared someone won’t like your drawing? Now, instead of being stressed, ect., prepare yourself for a successful outcome. Be in a positive place, get rid of bad energy so people will want to be around you or help you.
There is a quote I heard that says “ACT HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL.” Your attitude is your choice.

Make it a great week and be sure to tune into my live artcast every Tuesday night.

Get the ball rolling

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

9I wanted to share with you my wrap up report from the CTN Expo in Burbank, California. The event was three days and was extremely well planned and organized. It had a nice intimate feeling and it felt like everyone from the animation industry was present. For all of you that attended, it was a pleasure meeting you. I heard lots of stories from many people. Some were nervous students thinking about what will be next for them after they graduate from school, I also talked with many industry people that are looking for studio work. As I think about the many stories, the question of what is next, was one that kept repeating. The CTN Expo was a great place to get that ball rolling to take the first step. I am a firm believer in pursuing your independence and doing what you want to do. Don’t just sit around waiting for someone to grant you a wish or tap you on the shoulder and give you the job of your dreams. Start something on your own that you want to do. Take the first step, create an idea, whether it is making your own greeting cards, children’s books, show concepts, licensing ideas, anything, just get it started and put it into motion. With the internet today, you can find all the answers you are looking for. Start today!

Make it a great week!

PRESS ON!

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

170-copyNothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
Calvin Coolidge
30th president of US (1872 - 1933)

I wanted to share this quote with you because of the importance of the one word “Persistence.” We all have a burning desire to do things in our lives but may be afraid, unsure or just lazy. I have found throughout my career that all I have achieved, weather it be finding work, selling books, having the things I want in life, is all through my determination and persistence. By following through and finishing what I start, I achieve one goal at a time. It is time to act! Stop talking about the things you want to do, start doing them. It is time to press on and start today to make things happen for your tomorrow.

On a side note, I will be out of town for the next two weeks and will be unable to send out a message next week. I have also started a live streaming video Artcast that I will be doing every couple weeks. You can follow me there at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/artcast-by-silver

Apply Persistence to Your Possibilities

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

1285I came across this great verse, I think it nails persistence right on the head, It is all in your attitude. Your success is not a matter of idle chance,
it’s a matter of making the right choices.
It’s not something you wait for,
but rather something you’ll achieve with effort.
Things won’t turn up in this world until you turn them up.

Success is neither magical nor mysterious.
The people that truly succeed in the world
are the people who look for the circumstances they want,
and, if they can’t find them, make them.
Don’t sit on the sidelines, get in the game.
Your access to success has no real limits.

The great opportunity in your life is where you are right now.
Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity for you.
You have grand opportunities all around you.
Open your eyes, and you will find it.

If you have the desire, you have the power.
Taking action is all that is required.

THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Yesterday morning I found myself thourally entertained as I was watching an infomercial. I couldn’t break myself away from it and thought to myself, who watches these things, me, who believes these things, defiantly not me. The one I was watching was called Jeff Paul’s Shortcut to Internet Millions. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. The guy must have spent a fortune putting this hoax together. What I have come to learn throughout my career and what I have learned from reading about   other people and watching their biographies is, THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS.

In order to be successful at anything, drawing, painting, sports, cooking, acting, you name it, it simply takes time, effort and determination. I have had many young artists come to me and ask, “how do I get better?” I tell them to draw a lot, explore and practice. I often get blank stares and the next question, “well, what’s the secret to drawing better?”  The answer is the same, draw a lot, explore and practice, there are no short cuts. In life, if you enjoy what it is you are doing, you will excel. Your passion is what will drive you to succeed in whatever it is you wish to do and simply remember…….untitled-3

My new book, “Passion for Life,” is now available and shipping. I will also be exhibiting at the San Diego Comic-Con, booth H-06 at the end of isle 1000. Please stop by and say hello if you are attending. Also, as a reminder, if you or anyone you know wishes to learn all about Self-Publishing, I am conducting a three hour seminar with an industry printer on August 12th, more info here: http://www.facebook.com/l/;http://www.bit.ly/83mh5
